the small scales are a bit suppressed by the modulation map, which has a mean less than 1:

this is an easier case because we are just starting from a source A_lm (marked as "large scale" in the plot, but it includes both large and small scaels):

this is expected, as seen in https://github.com/CMB-S4/s4mapbasedsims/issues/29 and before in the SO simulations.
