use an "alternate redstone" type mod to bypass the need for redstone in early-game circuits #508

this one looks potentially useful: https://modrinth.com/mod/powerstones

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

yarden.zamir I'd say working out something short term for this is of some importance given what's happened to crushed white processing

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

long term ideally

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

i mean we could make something that looks kinda like a logic device

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

Yes, I agree. Am still not sure about the best aproach. This seems like it could work but if we are adding something different from redstone i'd prefer for it to behave different too, like red power wire or something similar

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

Yea

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

But I also would prefer to have a use for regular redstone if possible

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

Though pretty sure that won't be easy to do

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

i mean it wouldn't connect to this wire

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

im not sure of the specifics here

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

not sure but these wires might have a lower signal range

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

im half remembering the mr description

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

that would work

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

We texture them a little more like frail wiring instead of dust maybe, make then a 4th device

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

actually would it be that bad if redstone never needed to be in the inventory? it can't compact into logic devices

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

not sure what you mean

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

like there's no way to pack your redstone supplies into devices unlike the wire component

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

I'm still not sure what you mean by never not being in inventory

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

oh I must've misspoke

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

maybe

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

if you want to wire things then it's not enough to just have the logic devices on hand

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

yes, to fix that we want some alternate wire thing that is ideally different from redstone

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

and that thing will be a device / partial device

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

it could be those colored redstone things potentially

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 10 months ago

yarden.zamir on Discord says

Need to test and see that they are interesting enough + play with the textures

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

That mod seems poorly made

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

It uses block states for all the redstone overlapping wires rather than multi blocks etc

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

As it says in the description it'd add 10s of thousands of block states which will absolutely destroy machines with less ram

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

Even with ferrite core

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

https://modrinth.com/mod/more-red

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

Better off using something like ^

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

And retexturing and changing recipes

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

Plus it comes with the extra gates

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

maybe, although the extra gates aren't necessarily desirable

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

I mean it's pretty easy to disable recipes

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

And it won't add 10s of thousands of blockstates

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

yeah

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

although the power stone mod doesn't actually add all the block states it would need in its theoretical complete version

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

But if you look at the bottom what they settled for is still 10s of thousands

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

It's just less than the billions

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

When they could instead just use multiblocks using a library

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

Or some custom tile entities

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

Which while still inefficient are 100s of times better than individually defining that many blockstates

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

yeah

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

wait they literally have ferrite core as a dependency because it lets you change default ram to 12gb

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

Which you can do anyway with launch args

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

that's really funny

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

i guess the mod literally can't run unless you do that or something

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

Like I said the dev doesn't seem very smart and that just admits it needs ram

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

auseawesome on Discord says

With that many blockstates it'll die on older machines

Discord-Github-Bridge commented 8 months ago

autistic.sack.of.friends on Discord says

it's all very funny
