Hi.
Yes that's a nice (and broad) topic to explore. As you said there are already a few religion icons like a christian and viking church, a crucifix, an asian shrine …
So more culture should definitely be added. But I may need some help to find the right references you have in mind.
Could you guide me a little by adding a few images ? Thanks
Not a problem. Before searching, I checked the icon list by tags. But I could've missed some. Also, this is by no means a comprehensive list - though it sure is a long one.)

I also once saw a very cool, squared bleeding heart carving in some old archeology book, but can't seem to fing it now. Oh, well.

And I'm fairly sure all that's referenced here, and much more, can be simplified to match the style of your other icons. If not as a whole (after all, placing a world on top of elephants on top of turtles on top of curled Ouroboros in confines of a small, minimalistic icon is no small feat), then by one element at a time.
But I feel it would be quite welcome.)

Maybe I'm blind, but after thoroughly searching through all five pages (well, okay, more like a 4,1) of suggestions I couldn't see any about religious symbols.
I know it could be a rather delicate topic, but I personally see no harm in simply depicting main symbols of faith and the like. GameIcons already has a ton of crosses, some asian and ancient stuff, occasional specials (like totems) here and there can be seen. So why not have some more? Arabic, hindu, mesoamerican, native american, sinto, tribal and island cultures, stuff from philosophical teachings (tao, buddhism, etc.) are always welcome, as are their attributes (distinct clothes, regalia, monks). Some world creation myth attributes, more mystical stuff about Cosmos and Universe would also be useful (though this theme sometimes is much more vague).
More icons about spirituality, faith, mystical nature of the world in general are needed. I'm sure you all have much of it in mind already, but I merely suggest an organised approach. Maybe, a themed release or two?
