License of tags and descriptions #954

We are building an online platform for board games (https://virtualtabletop.io/) and your awesome icon collection is really useful for that.

We would like to provide an icon picker in the editor but it would be 10x more useful if we could use your tags and icon descriptions.

As already asked in #918, could you please clarify the license of the tags and descriptions?

If it's also Creative Commons, I could offer to scrape it off the website and provide it in this issue as JSON so that others can use it without scraping again. Just to avoid any additional work for you.

If it's proprietary, that's - of course - completely fine. It would just be nice to have clarification.

Equaly interested in using not just the icons but also the tags & descriptions

For anyone still waiting for an answer: in the meantime I started a free metadata repository here: https://github.com/ArnoldSmith86/gameicons-metadata

I used AI to generate a first set of categories and tags and then started to improve them manually. The quality so far is nowhere near the metadata on https://game-icons.net but it's a lot better than just showing all icons in one big alphabetical list.

I will probably still improve it a bit but I don't think I'll spend a ton of more time on it. Pull requests are very welcome though. :grinning:
