Happy new year! I'm not sure using present as the end date for copyright is valid: I've not seen that on an open-source project before.
This stackoverflow post seems to say to update the year only when commits are made.
I'm have no clue about the law of this could be completely fine though.
Yeah I would be also unsure of the legality, but according to GPT lawyer
"While some projects choose to update their copyright year annually, using "present" is a legally sound and convenient approach. This method simplifies the maintenance of copyright documentation, especially for continuously evolving software. In terms of legal interpretation, the broad language of the MIT License supports this practice by providing a strong basis for licensees' rights to use, modify, and distribute the software, without the need for frequent updates to the copyright year. This inclusive approach aids in ensuring that all current and future versions of the software remain covered under the license terms."
I would take this with a pinch of salt though
I too haven't seen 'present' on any projects so far.
Happy new year to all, just a change in the license year to reflect the ongoing type of the repo
