Gamesir G8 and Lenovo y700 2023 tablet #130

there are a lot of reddit posts about this - but nothing helps in my case. After connecting Gamesir G8 to this tablet (2023 version has TWO usb-c ports) to port on the "shorter" side - it just blinks the status LED on the gamepad (one on the right side, which changes colors depending on mode the gamepad is) and gamepad is not usable until you connect a power source to USB-C in gamepad. When connected to second port (on "longer" side of the tablet) - everything works (but tablet is on portrait mode - so not usable for anything else than some specific games).

Like mentioned - resolution is to connect power source (adapter / power bank) to gamepad - but then this setup is losing on mobility. Can this be addressed via firmware update? maybe lower power requirements for gamepad?

also - I've tested different connections to the tablet:

I'm attaching some pictures with working setup - it's junky but it's working - so it might be adreable via firmware after all...

alright - after testing - I was able to actually "jumpstart" gamepad using second USB port and usbC to usbC cable. And after initial pairing LED is solid, gamepad works, I was even able to update firmware (which didn't help at all) using this tablet. So - for anyone interested in this and having the same issues as I had - until we have firmware update that will address that :

After that you can put tablet to sleep, update firmware, change modes - everything seems to work. Up until next disconnect or powering off tablet completely.

@lukascox Thanks for the comprehensive tests! This case working makes me hopeful for this issue to be fully fixed.

connected to port on "shorter" side via usb-4 cable, F-F adapter, USB-C to USB-A adapter then to USB-A to USB-C adapter - everything is working

The work around takes some tries to work for me. It is annoying but at least it works.

what I have found is - the better the cable is (quality) the less tries it takes. I had some issues with braided USB-c to USB-c usb 2.0 cable (from Apple Iphone) - had to connect / reconnect gamepad few times. But with shorter USB-4 cable - only once and it works. I lost all hopes for firmware update to fix this - because I think it's not the Gamesir issue - in this case it's rather tablet issue. So - I'm trying just not to disconnect it to often :) even when device goes to sleep and wakes up - gamepad just works. Only reboots make it unusable again (until doing workaround that is....)
