Expand the documentation

Before this is submitted for inclusion with GAP, the manual needs to be brought into better shape. I think at least the following needs to be done:

• [ ] resolve any TODO comments (obviously)
• [ ] explicitly list what is there and what is missing
• [ ] document some more functions
• [ ] include examples
• [ ] ... ?
