Hey there garbear I’ve been testing out your Retroplayer 21 Beta 1 Build For A Couple Of Weeks Now And It’s My Go To Emulator Only Problem Is I Couldn’t Get The Regular Amiga Games Running Even After multiple attempts to troubleshoot it like putting the correct bios and kickstart/hdfs files in the correct spots one time I got the Amiga CD32 working where it just launched the games but I forgot how and have reinstalled it since then The Sega CD Section Works Really Good The PlayStation One Struggles And Is Buggy I Got It Working Good 1 Time Tho In A Previous Install And Yet Again Forgot How I Had The Settings Set I Still Have Alot Of More Systems To Test Out Is There A Newer Build I Can Just Install Easily One That Is Later Than Retroplayer 21 Beta 1 And I Only Have The Android Box Itself It No Windows PC So I Meed To Be Able To Install It On The Machine Itself Wich I Can Fo With Your Retroplayer 21 Beta 1.apk I’ve also been trying to beef your project up by adding different files to my system Like I installed BusyBox I don’t know how to use it all the way yet or even barely how to use it but I have a brief understanding of what it is and does My Android Box Is An Amlogic u2397 franklin HEYNOW build Running Android (9) pi With A Linux 4.9 kernel and XCHI Host Port It Has 4 Cores And A s905x3 Mali GPU it Had CoreElec And Android In Dual Boot Mode When I Got It 2 months ago and I immediately before even playing it took the sd card and put it in one of my other older Android phones to try to put more games on it and accidentally ruined the CoreElec part so I spent countless days since 2 months ago trying to get it back on with no luck tried thousands of methods until I stumbled upon your Retroplayer 21 Beta 1 Project On GitHub So I was wondering If You Could Maybe Send Me A File Or Some Tips On How To Improve It By Finding And Adding Certain Files To It Or If You could Burn Me The CoreElec On An SD Card And Send Ship It To Me That Would Be Legit Af Bro And I Would Appreciate Any Way You Could Help Me Make My Device An Emulation Beast Like It Was When I Got It Before I Unknowingly Messed Everything Up On It Lol My Name Is Zachary Peebles On Facebook And my email adress is glennpeebs@gmail.com it’s the best way to reach me either messenger or email I would way appreciate your help bro and the easier it is for me to install the better I will be testing your builds nonstop so please please keep working on them it’s the only thing that actually works on the android part of my device wich is what I’m stuck with since I screwed up the CoreLec side a couple months back also I used the rom installer for jrummyapps on my Android box and got a couple of the gapps to download but I don’t even know if I installed them correctly after that but it seemed to make your program work a little faster then I downloaded OpenGL Gamers Tool App And Put It On Auto Boost And That’s Where I Got The Sega CD Games All Running At 60FPS Constant With No Audio Or Video Glitches Or Bugs So Please Bro Help Me Out Further On How To Improve Your Build And Thank You Bro U Rock The Casbah ;)

Glad to hear my builds are useful!

It's been a challenge emulating all of gaming history. Especially because, as a millennial, I haven't experienced older consoles like Amiga. I rely a lot on help from the community for those. It says "RetroPlayer by garbear" but really hundreds of people have contributed over the years.

If you'd like to be a contributor (aka tester) then we can isolate a specific thing that doesn't work, fix it, and then repeat until you're happy with your setup.

Your issue here seems to include lots of problems. Let's start by choosing your most important goal and getting it to work. Then we can go from there. What would you like to get working first?

Thank You bro very much okay the first step would be to get CorElec Back Onto My Device And Working Without Comprimising The Android (9) side of it

Like I said when I got it the very first thing I did was put the sd card into an older phone I had in an attempt to put more games on it well I didn’t know it was going to auto format it to Google plays storage on the phone and wipe CoreElec Out Of Existence Lol So Ever Since Then Wich Was 2 Minths Ago I’ve Been Trying relentlessly multiple methods only using the Android device itself I tried pretty much every one you could think of but I don’t really understand how to use them all so couldn’t execute the installation properly on each attempt I made I’m actually on your build rn and I seemed to install repo of all repos and now have a ton of add-ons maybe one of these add-ons will house a CoreElec Add-On That Will Properly Install Lol

Haha hope it works out. CoreELEC is an operating system, not an add-on. You need a Linux-based set-top box for CoreELEC, not an Android phone. Does that clear up some confusion?

purrpgoddpeebles commented 7 months ago

Yeah but In the root it has some of the Corelec Files Still I Actually Almost Burned It To SD Card Successfully one time like after I flashed it one time the sd card actually read as CoreElec but I didn’t even take the time to make sure I just tried booting it once and it hung up on a black screen I actually have something called a Linux 4.9 kernel And 2 XCHI Hostpads I think they are called when looking in aida64 that’s what it says I mean I even got /proc files in the root And if you scroll down past all the numbered folders you still see a /device-trees folder and those are specific to CoreElec maybe I should just get help from you on how to improve your build if you don’t mind but like I previously stated I don’t have access to a Microsoft pc or I would be able to do all of this lol

Ha no my latest build is based on v21 beta 1. When beta 2 is released (maybe in the next few days or weeks) I'll of course rebase and do a Beta 2 build, usually within a few days of release.

Yeah but In the root it has some of the Corelec Files

Is this on Android or booted into CoreELEC? Because you shouldn't put a CoreELEC SD card in an android device, CoreELEC needs to be booted on the appropriate hardware like a raspberry pi or home theater PC.

maybe I should just get help from you on how to improve your build if you don’t mind but like I previously stated I don’t have access to a Microsoft pc or I would be able to do all of this lol

Testing like this can improve the build, so we can continue getting this working for you.

Can you help me with the quickest way of how to install and run a lot of the cool projects on GitHub using git and code spaces possibly?? Because their are alot of cool emulators I could run on their if I knew how to use it to do so

Sorry, I use git extensively but have never used code spaces.

On the site it says:

"Spin up fully configured dev environments in the cloud that start in seconds with up to 60 hours a month free"

Unfortunately, Kodi probably won't work in a cloud dev environment. Consider that Kodi needs a GPU, extensive access to the underlying hardware, and 1080p or 4K output that can't easily be streamed from a cloud to a local display.

Your best bet for testing Kodi is on hardware you own. Likewise for emulators with extensive graphical output, you might want to run locally.

Let's start with listing the local hardware you want to run Kodi on.

you should tho go into your internet browser on pretty much any device and OS and go into archive.org aka the internet archive go to the search bar and type The Emulation Station Then walahh you have a ton of free retro shit that plays hella good in your web browser using an emulator called MESS and Another Ine Called Ruffle And ExDOS

While magnificent, the emulator you are using is compiled to WASM and run natively in a browser, like a Javascript program would be. Can Kodi be compiled to the browser like these emulators? Maybe, but it would easily be a 10-year project for a solo dev.

It’s in android it came with a dual boot mode it has preinstall apps like reboot to LibreElec and OTA Upgrade app for The CoreElec Update.tar file to instantly reboot and recover also in my system recovery mode I can mount system and update via adb but I don’t fully understand how people are doing this another thing is installing to emmc internal but haven’t tried that because I don’t wanna brick what I got lol

I checked out the TSINGO GX3 with an S905 CPU and unfortunately it looks like you bought a cheap Chinese box with copyright infringement out the wazoo. Your best bet is to stick with the software it came with and never change, because it will break and you will have no support.

It's unlikely you can run Kodi on this system, as we quickly grew tired of supporting Chinese boxes that do nonstandard things. Indeed, my first software engineering job folded because we relied on a Chinese box that did nonstandard things. It's a good price point and... not good for much else, especially after a year or two when it breaks and you have no support.

Are you willing to switch to supported hardware? A $60 Raspberry Pi, if you can get one, will actually work, will be supported, and will have developers willing to investigate problems and fix them in a standards-compliant way.

garbear commented 7 months ago

To expand on the TSINGO, it ships with a really old version, bad of Android and EmuELEC. EmuELEC says:

"However, the distro contains many non-commercial emulators/libraries/cores/binaries and therefore cannot be sold, bundled, offered, included in commercial products/applications or anything similar, including but not limited to Android devices, smart TVs, TV boxes, handheld devices, computers, SBCs or anything else that can run EmuELEC"

(emphasis original)

Clearly your box would be highly illegal in a country that respects IP, so it's unlikely you'll find anyone to support it.

garbear commented 7 months ago

Also, I just read a DM from a friend a few days ago about AliExpress. Not only do they shove crap but they cheat import taxes by declaring $0.01 and an HS code which is exempt. When Canada tried to check goods from Ali it brought their postal system to its knees for weeks. I would avoid this distributor for future purchases, if you're able to.

That's actually pretty cool, I haven't heard of a device like this. Can you link to a webpage for the device?

My most sincere apologies, but I don't have any extra (working) hardware at this time. You got caught in a geopolitical scam that has, incidentally, impacted my well-being as well. My thoughts go out to your situation but I don't think there's much I can do, unless you have any ideas.

Nah it’s okay I’m just going to try your build because I like it so far I did get an emulator front end working about a month ago called RetroX on it with Retroarch fully setup rn I’m looking at a large list of emulators for Android os and I’m gonna try Yuzu
