allows the user to specify the directory artifacts are saved to:

./build --target my_linux base

Wouldn't it have made sense to integrate that into https://github.com/gardenlinux/gardenlinux/blob/main/build as well? /cc @MalteJ @Vincinator

You are right, it would have.

More updates on the new build script will follow, I will create a cumulative PR on gardenlinux/gardenlinux with the latest changes and add you both as reviewer @MalteJ and @damyan (just so you can track the changes)
