Vicsek phase diagram #11

In this article http://hal.elte.hu/~vicsek/downloads/papers/EurPhysJB64_451_2008.pdf they provide the phase diagram of the Vicsek model (see figure 1 (d)). The order parameter is the modulus of the velocity. The (eta, rho)-phase diagram shows a transition as a function of "eta" the noise amplitude and "rho" the density.

How will we control the noise in the experiment? Since, if the players are too good at the game, the noise may be too low to observe a disordered phase?

The easiest way to realize this is a game with a few number of players. It shouldn't then be too difficult for one player to follow the other one.

controling the noise is easy, we should just add it. right now players have no intrinsic noise: if they don't move the cursor, the ship moves striaght. adding noise would simply mean that in each time-step there is a random rotation added to whatever the user pressed. we can decide how small this random rotation is. I'm sure for large noise values the ship is imposible to control...

true! In this way it becomes indeed easy.

Another option is to give the participants alcohol :)
