I am pretty sure I am the only one with an empty nick (in w.g.o production), but there's no reason to require it. Nick names were more relevant when "everyone" was on IRC, but today it is quite common to use real names, so we shouldn't require a nick name.
This is mostly just a UI thing. I've used a blank nick since long before I had admin-privileges, and it mostly works fine. There are a couple of minor weird issues, be we can address them separately.
As such, this issue is just about removing the checks that enforce nick names.
