First Gatsby Maintainer Summit Friday March 9, 2018 @ Berkeley California #4287

Hey everyone!

So a few Gatsby folks are in the bay area in a couple of weeks and we thought it'd be really fun / cool / helpful for the project if we held a one-day maintainer summit.

The rough plan is to have some talks in the morning on Gatsby v2, future of Gatsby, deep-dives into some Gatsby sub-systems, etc. Then break into groups to discuss various Gatsby problems and write RFCs from that.

I know this is really short notice but I'd love many of you to come! We have $4027 in our Open Collective account and this seems like a perfect way to use it. If you're not from the bay area, I was thinking we could subsidize part of the trip cost e.g. ~$250. We have limited meeting space e.g. ~15 people. If you'd like to come and have made at least one PR to Gatsby core or community plugins, send me an email at mathews.kyle@gmail.com and let's make this happen!

Also, if you can't make this one, we'll definitely be doing more of these in the future. Here in California + elsewhere in the US + Europe + elsewhere there's enough maintainers + I have reason to visit :-D

Oh and we're going to try to stream the talks as well.

It would be interesting to try and figure out where in the world contributors are located. In addition to being really useful for planning future Maintainer Summits, it could also make for a really cool data visualization. 😄

Hmm yeah — we should send out a survey or something at some point.

Hey everyone! Super excited to be doing this tomorrow. Here's the high-level agenda.

Kyle Mathews — 10-10:30 State of Gatsby Core Eric Vicenti — 10:35-10:50 — discussing his experimental React web/native framework Shannon Soper — 11-11:15 — State of Gatsby Docs Jason Quense — 11:20-11:35 — TBD Mike Allanson — 11:40-11:55 TBD

12-1:30 Lunch — pizza from the ever amazing Cheese Board

1:30-5:30 Unconference

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference

If you haven't attended an unconference before, they're pretty fun. We'll hold 3-4 sessions in the afternoon. The focus is to foster discussion around problems/opportunities for Gatsby. Attendees should come with ideas to talk about. At the start of each session, people will post session ideas and then everyone will vote on them. The sessions with the most votes will then run for the next ~50 minutes. Then we rinse and repeat.

6-8:30 Dinner (optional)
