incorporate coastal line into GeoJSON polygons #24

Closed hupili closed 10 years ago

sea regions are also coloured at present. Use coastal lines.

Like The project mentioned in #15

Agreed that this would be good to have. I found coastlines here, but they don't seem to match to our shapefiles. Maybe something wrong with the projection, so I can take another look.

Cedric writes here that the coastal shapefiles are on the Census CD-ROM, if we want to try and go that route.

hupili commented 10 years ago

I'm on it. I need to read the license before sharing. Also the CD mentioned in #15 .

hupili commented 10 years ago

I can not find license of the map data. We may stick to fair use convention. I can not upload the whole disc. A selected set of relevant shape files are in Google Share Dir:

@hxu or @2blam You may try to integrate it.

hxu commented 10 years ago

thx @hupili, I've integrated this in frontend.

I found that the new Constituency Area file has only 390 areas, as opposed to 412. @hupili the data is from the 2001 Census, right? I'm guessing this is because some areas were subdivided as populations grew.

The District Council set should still be OK, but I am going to combine the coastal shapefile with the 2011 CA shapefiles so that we have all 412.

hupili commented 10 years ago

Yes, that's from 2001. Maybe we only use the coastal shape file from 2011 and produce the land-only versions ourselves.
