1.2.6 - Search for journals titles (Advanced Search) #49

Open janahoffmann opened 13 years ago

janahoffmann commented 13 years ago

Enter a journal title, search in 'journal index' of BHL-Europe, e.g. 'The American journal of anatomy'; display all digital holdings/ Volumes under the name of this journal.

Precondition: Index of journal titles (including acronyms and various spellings), see: http://www.mainlib.uwi.tt/divisions/eps/guides/epsjournalabbguide.pdf http://www.bioscience.org/atlases/jourabbr/list.htm or

previous comment: @fwelter Search page, default search function: if the results for a query return the name of a journal, only the journal title shall appear in the list of search results.

Example: http://test111.ait.co.at query: annalen naturhistorischen museums wien

(current result set: 1588 hits)

this query shall basically return only the journal homepage for the journal "Annalen des Naturhistorischen Museums in Wien", like for example in the same query at http://grib.gbv.de where currently only 5 results are returned (results 1-3 and 5 refer to the same journal, this is not perfect, but more or less acceptable)

The query shall NOT return every single journal volume in the results set.

Bad example: http://test111.ait.co.at query: annalen

In this query every single journal volume is listed. This is nonsense. Only the result that links to the journal homepage (bibliography page) should show up.

Good example: http://www.biodiversitylibrary.org query: annalen des naturhistorischen museums

Only one result is shown here, it is exactly what we need here.

To my understanding this issue is not to be closed. We don't have that implemented now as we need to integrate the GRIb super records first or do it the way BHL US is doing it. Please clarify, why you closed this issue. It is not functional for testing.

Developer yet to be assigned for Portal work required for GRIB Integration. Boris will create separate Project task Issues i.e Preconditions and link them to relevant features in GitHub. Nov Release timeline for GRIB Integration is dependent on GRIB being successfully tested by October 14th (deadline date given by Boris).

I think there is no final agreement on how this is going to be done. The GRIB is one option but not the only option, especially as we do not know about the deduplication algorithm and how reliable it is. The first option we should follow is to find a good way to display holdings on journals in general: Here the situation: We have a number of journal volumes (all the same title besides the volume number). We have to display all of them whenever a users searches for the journal title. We don't want to list: journal title vol. 1, journal title vol. 2, etc. We should aim at presenting it as journal title xy: Vol. 1 , Vol. 2, Vol. 3

I have discussed this with Jiri and maybe he can demonstrate how he can imagine to display this in the result list.

I thought we are going to have a separate journal page (like BHLUS) in a bibliographic style with relevant information and then link to the Volume.

The availability on article level per volume is more an expection than the rule. Please keep this in mind!

I think we either split this task or assign it to a developer in the team.

Furthermore I strongly recommend to use the services as listed in the description of the feature to implement a proper display of the journal title holdings.

search for journal title; functionality done and implemented, as soon as we have data we can test. (can test with a manual ingest). Wolfgang/Zheng - ongoing discussions.
