UiO core RI (kjernefasilitet) #155

The GBIF node was approved in June 2023 as a UiO Core Research Facility (kjernefasilitet). See also the respective GBIF.no news item. With the status as UiO-core-RI, we are eligible to apply for UiO funding (the total allocated for core-RIs in 2023 is 1,7 million NOK). The application deadline this year is --> 15th September 2023! <--

GBIF Norway was approved as a UiO "core RI" -- what do we want to do as the next step?

I suggest that we consider establishing UiO services similar to what ELIXIR has established? See: Kjernefasilitet for bioinformatikk/ELIXIR helpdesk

I also suggest that we develop further our (online/on site) biodiversity informatics helpdesk See e.g. the ELIXIR helpdesk:

The Core RI data publication workshop is coming up SOON! The home page states the agenda below. Who will teach each presentation? Who of us will be there? When do we start (hour of the day)? When do we close (hour of the day)? Do we order any food? Did anybody order any food? (the registration form is asking for food preferences)

Morning: Introductory Presentations Introduction to biodiversity data publishing (60 minutes) Introduction to GBIF (15 minutes) Introduction to Darwin Core (15 minutes) Rest of the Day: Hands-on Data Publishing Expert assistance is available. Learn through hands-on experience and collaborative problem-solving. Convert data to Darwin Core Archive. Map parameter names to Darwin Core terms. Data restructuring where necessary. Use GBIF’s Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT): https://www.gbif.org/ipt

The data mobilisation workshop is getting very close - already next week! Do we have an overview of registered participants? Did we order lunch or plan for how to organize lunch? Do we know who from us will participate and give presentations?

We have 8 participants in nettskjema. We are working on the lunch today with @rukayaj I will participate and teach as well... @rukayaj might join us but if I remember correctly, It's her first day of maternity leave

I have made a draft of the UiO core RI helpdesk project report with a deadline on 15th October (on Tuesday next week!!!). Please let me know if somebody has already started drafting the project report and if you are planning to submit the report!

Please all review the report and make any comments and edits by the end of Friday. (We also need some time to get Hugo's signature before submitting the report.)

This UiO core RI GBIF node helpdesk project should be seen as an extension and part of the GBIF node "WP4: Node helpdesk, data mobilization, and communication".

We have budget (through to the end of 2024) to cover travel costs for node staff to visit us in Oslo!

The data use workshop was planned on 2024-11-22 but was delayed most likely to 2024-11-28 (@MichalTorma will probably fix the date and update the announcement very soon). Node staff that want to join us for the workshop on 2024-11-28 is most welcome!!

GBIF Iceland might be interested in joining us on 2024-11-28. If we fix the new date - I can ask if other European nodes might be interested in joining us...
