Request for disc storage space #39

The GBIF Node has from time to time some requests for hosting disc storage space. In particular for multimedia (photos). But this would also be relevant for original source data before mapping and transformation to Darwin Core (Darwin Core archive).

The GBIF Node has some limited storage space on (virtual) servers at UiO. And does host some photos -- but always limited to photos for specimens and occurrences that are published to GBIF!

For original source datasets, we do not host these on the GBIF Node server space but archive them on Zenodo.

For other large data resources that "data publishers" need to store, we can (and should) refer to resources offered by Uninett Sigma2. Such as the NIRD storage. NIRD is a service already paid for by the Research Council. Access and volume of resources/storage space granted are based on an application. The application is evaluated based on the basis of scientific use, in particular, scientific activities generating scientific papers. But referring to GBIF Norway as an RCN-funded infrastructure would surely also be evaluated positively!
