Hi @LarsSkipper,

We got the feedback message above that Eristalis lineata Harris, 1776 shouldn't be a synonym of Cheilosia morio (Zetterstedt, 1838). The information in the GBIF Backbone taxonomy comes from the National checklist of all species occurring in Denmark. Could you take a look?

Perhaps there was a mix up with Eristalis lineata Wahlberg, 1843 which is a synonym of Cheilosia morio (Zetterstedt, 1838).

Dear Marie

Thanks for your comment.

It seems there is a malfunction when generating a taxon list from Arter to GBIF. On Arter.dk Cheilosia morio (Zetterstedt, 1838) only occurs as a so called technical synonym for Eristalis lineata Harris, 1776. Technical synonyms are not real synonyms and only meant to be used for internal use, so they should not be included in the taxon list exported to GBIF.

I will tell our developers to fix the error.

Best regards Lars

I have had an expert to look at the Eristalis / Cheilosia complex. Eristalis lineata Harris, 1776 has been deleted from Arter and changed to Eristalis horticola, (De Geer), 1776. According to my source, Cheilosia morio (Zetterstedt, 1838) is not the accepted name for Eristalis horticola, (De Geer), 1776 !?

Best regards Lars

Hi @LarsSkipper thanks for following up!

It sounds like Cheilosia morio (Zetterstedt, 1838) and Eristalis horticola, (De Geer), 1776 shouldn't be synonyms either.

As far as I can see, the version of the National checklist of all species occurring in Denmark available on GBIF hasn't been updated yet. Eristalis lineata Harris, 1776 is still there and showing as a synonym of Cheilosia morio (Zetterstedt, 1838): https://www.gbif.org/species/168525323

When you have a chance, it would be great to push the changes to GBIF so we can incorporate them in the next GBIF Backbone taxonomy update.
