Butterfly records misplaced to wrong family #207

Hi! A few records from the UT insect collection for the Nymphalid genus Hamadryas are incorrectly showing up on GBIF in the moth genus Euclemensia, in the Cosmopterigidae. The taxonomy is correct in our internal Specify database, and Hamadryas appears to be correctly placed in the GBIF backbone, but somehow the individual species are getting swapped on upload.

Some of the affected records: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/3743441334 https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/3743441315 https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/3743441347 https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/3743441323

I'd appreciate any assistance in moving these records, or preventing this sort of swap in the future.

Thanks!

Hi Alex,

Thank you for making us aware of the issue. I will look into it. We get the taxonomy mostly from Catalogue of Life and I know they are working on updating the Lepidoptera taxonomy in particular.

Investigating the issue:

There seems to be a mix-up in interpreting from perhaps the author names: https://www.gbif.org/species/search?q=Hamadryas&rank=GENUS&highertaxon_key=797&origin=SOURCE&qField=SCIENTIFIC? Note - we only have occurrences associated with Hübner.

@thomasstjerne do you reckon this will be fixed in the next update of the backbone?

The issue has been resolved in the following backbone update.
