Taxonomy gap: sawflies

79,515 out of 470,781 sawflies occurrences are matched to a higher rank. In general, several issues were logged by our users because our taxonomy is missing many sawflies groups.

I couldn't find a comprehensive database for sawflies taxonomy, however, there are a few lists we could consider integrating in the backbone:

I see that we also have an occurrence dataset for the ECatSym: Electronic World Catalog of Symphyta (https://doi.org/10.15468/takraf). Perhaps we could ask/help them publish their data as a checklist?

Related issue mentioned by one of our users. Many sawflies are matched to a Lepidoptera genus https://www.gbif.org/species/1734982.

@mdoering Should I loge an issue for the Catalogue of Life? I don't have a good source for sawflies but perhaps having at least partial coverage would be better than what there is now?

The regular COL does not do partial coverages - global sources are required. But we can try to fill gaps in the upcoming extended release we are working on, so please open an issue at https://github.com/CatalogueOfLife/data/issues and label is with xcol.
