Boloria bellona should be an accepted species. See https://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/t/Boloria_bellona_a.htm and the GBIF species page cites ITIS, but ITIS agrees with me here - https://www.itis.gov/servlet/SingleRpt/SingleRpt?search_topic=TSN&search_value=188580#null.

As far as I can see in the backbone:

  1. Argynnis bellona Fabricius, 1775 (https://www.gbif.org/species/11949442) is a Basionym of Boloria bellona (Fabricius, 1775)
  2. And Argynnis bellona Fabricius, 1775 is also Clossiana toddi subsp. ammiralis (Hemming, 1933) (This comes from the Global Lepidoptera Index).

I don't know where the issue is, whether Argynnis bellona Fabricius, 1775 shouldn't be the basionym of Boloria bellona (Fabricius, 1775) or whether it shouldn't be a synonym of lossiana toddi subsp. ammiralis (Hemming, 1933).

Perhaps @dhobern would know more?

I am just flagging things that I see that are very wrong for Vermont, USA in the GBIF backbone for butterflies. I think the issue is that overall, the GLI is quite outdated for butterflies for our part of the world.
