Dear all,

Some species the genus Ahamus are not included in the GBIF taxonomy backbone (list below). I was wondering if this was done on purpose? Or should it be added still? The genus Ahamus is currently accepted in the GBIF backbone, with only one species Ahamus yunnanensis .

The genus and species originate from the same work. The species were revised under the Ahamus genus in the following paper, which describes Ahamus as a genus novo.: 邹志文, 刘昕, & 张古忍. (2010). 中国蝠蛾属 (鳞翅目, 蝙蝠蛾科) 现行分类系统的修订. 湖南科技大学学报 (自然科学版), 1.

The species included in GBIF, Ahamus yunnanensis, is synonymous to Bipectilus yunnanensis, Hepialus yunnanensis and Thitarodes yunnanensis. These four synonyms are all accepted for species level in GBIF

Here a list of other species of the Ahamus genus, according to the attached reference Ahamus yulongensis Ahamus altaicola Ahamus anomopterus Ahamus gangcaensis Ahamus jianchuanensis Ahamus lijiangensis Ahamus luquensis Ahamus maquensis Ahamus sichuanus Ahamus yushuensis Ahamus zadoiensis Ahamus zhayuensis

The backbone issues can take time to be fixed, as the process includes complex steps, and we update the backbone only once or twice a year. You can see more information in this blog post. Regarding to this issue, publishing checklists is the way to include missing species in the backbone. If you have any suggestions of checklists to be published on GBIF, please let us know.
