I cannot find the source for Carex nigra var. nigra (https://www.gbif.org/species/7346139) in the GBIF backbone taxonomy. I see that in all the other checklists, it is shown as a synonym of Carex nigra (L.) Reichard like here: https://www.gbif.org/species/118375847
@mdoering any idea why this there is this synonymy relationship?
“Wrong” coupling of taxa
In the danish taxon list we have a taxon named Carex nigra var. nigra which is variety of Carex nigra (L.) Reichard.
On GBIF Carex nigra f. nigra is given as a synonym of Carex nigra (L.) Reichard and Carex nigra subsp. nigra is given as a child of this species.
Carex nigra var. nigra, on the other hand, is given as a child of Carex parviflora Host, a species which is not present in Denmark (as pointed out here: https://twitter.com/Erik_Welk/status/1684127215410380800)
Since it is not a common procedure to attach author names to nominal names, as the infraspecific names mentioned, the coupling between Carex nigra var. nigra and Carex parviflora Host can occur.
This is not a real bug, but of course not a fortunate coupling. I guess this topic has been discussed in GBIF. Do you have any comments/solutions to this ?
