Hi @spalp yes this is the way to proceed! Now we have to wait until our GRSciColl cached is refreshed (which happens twice a week) and reinterpret the dataset (which I can do). I will temporarily co-assign myself to remember to reinterpret the data.

@ManonGros Can you assign this GRSciColl institution to the following publisher? https://www.gbif.org/publisher/826e5964-1925-48e4-a839-f4b418e75260

Linking occurrences to the Institution

Code = NMNHS (main Institution code)

Step 1: Check - are there any datasets in GBIF using this institution code? If yes, do all of them contain occurrences from this institution?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&institution_code=nmnhs Custom: Show Dataset per Basis of record

Result: 06.12.2023: 51 occurrences from 13 datasets, 1 is not from this institution. Those from the institution (n = 48) are all linked via the OccurrenceMapping API (see step 3). 17.11.2023: 50 occurrences from 12 datasets, 1 is not from this institution. Those from the institution are all linked via the OccurrenceMapping API (see step 3). 31.10.2023: 45 occurrences from 7 datasets, of which all were linked to NMNHS via the API (but all are MaterialCitation so we should wait for this BasisOfRecord to be accepted).

Step 2: Are occurrences using this code going to be automatically mapped to the institution? If, yes, is the institution matched the correct one?

https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?institutionCode=NMNHS No, the institution code does not return any match --> A manual mapping is needed!

Step 3: Manual mapping of occurrences that belong to this institution

NOTE: It is a good idea to list all datasets here but mark those that are not from this institution.

The following occurrences were linked to the institution NMNHS using the OccurrenceMapping API and institutionCode= NMNHS: https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/institution/3e2c3303-f852-4ea4-9699-2134157bf6fc

NOTE: The reason for occurrenceCount: 0 is probably the fact the the BasisOfRecord is MaterialCitation.

Code = MSB-BG (alternative code)

Step 1: Check - are there any datasets in GBIF using the alternative institution code? If yes, do all of them contain occurrences from this institution?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/taxonomy?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&institution_code=MSB-BG

Check regularly for published datasets with occurences that have NMNHS as institution code:

Last check: 17.11.2023: 50 occurences from 7 datasets, of which all were linked to NMNHS via the API (but all are MaterialCitation so we should wait this BasisOfRecord to be accepted) 31.10.2023: 45 occurences from 7 datasets, of which all were linked to NMNHS via the API (but all are MaterialCitation so we should wait this BasisOfRecord to be accepted)

Linking occurrences to Collections

Collection code = NMNHS (i.e. the same as the Institution code)

Step 1: Are there any occurrences in GBIF using the institution code as a collection code? If yes, are these occurrences from a single collection or many collections within the same or different institutions (pay attention to the taxonomy)?

Query: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&collection_code=nmnhs NOTE: Better use the chart view, otherwise only the first 10 datasets are visible in the filter menu.

Conclusion: The occurrences are from datasets with different taxonomic groups, which means that they should be mapped to different collections within this institution. Therefore, NMNHS should given to any specific GRSciColl collection (or to all of them, but in any case, a manual match is needed).

Step 2: Are occurrences using this code going to be automatically mapped to an existing GRSciColl collection? If, yes, is the collection matched the correct one?

https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?collectionCode=NMNHS Results (18.11.2023): 62 occurrences from 18 datasets all are from citation to materials from different collections of this institution.

Step 3: Manual mapping to individual collections

Collection code = MSB-BG (i.e. the same as the alternative Institution code)

Step 1: Are there any occurrences in GBIF using the institution code as a collection code? If yes, are these occurrences from a single collection or many collections within the same or different institutions (pay attention to the taxonomy)?

Query: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&collection_code=MSB-BG NOTE: Better use the chart view, otherwise only the first 10 datasets are visible in the filter menu.

Result: 0 occ.
