I added 12 more collections, all of which are on the DiSSCo website and thus should be in the process of digitisation:

  1. Еx situ Collection of Living Plants

    • Is it really in the process of digitisation?
  2. Reference Palynological collection of the IBER-BAS | Code: PB

  3. Paleobotany | Code: PB

  4. Fossil Mammals | Code: FMC

  5. Entomological and Arachnological Collections | Code: INV

  6. Aquatic Invertebrates: Еphemeroptera, Plecoptera, Heteroptera, Chironomidae | Code: INV

  7. Aquatic Invertebrates: Oligochaeta | Code: INV

  8. Nematological Collection | Code: INV

  9. Malacological Collection | Code: INV

  10. Helminthological Collection | Code: INV

  11. Recent Mammals | Code: VER

  12. Protozoological Collection | Code: INV

  13. Cuticle collection | Code: PB - it is mentioned on the Department's website here but not listed as a separate collection on the DiSSCo-BG website. I assumed it has the same code as the Paleobotanical and Palynological collections.

Link to the Entomological and Arachnological Collections | Code: INV (https://scientific-collections.gbif.org/collection/56d07a8b-e5be-45f2-80b3-f73254e92cd4) the following observations (Note: they already linked to the institution but not to the collection):

Update (23.10.2023): Just added 'Toshko Ljubomirov' and 'Vera Antonova' as alternative collection codes to the Entomological and Arachnological Collections | Code: INV. Perhaps it will link them in the coming days.

Update (17.11.2023): The owner of the Ants of Bulgaria dataset requested to delete it from GBIF.

Linking occurrences to the Institution

Code = IBER-BAS (main code)

Step 1: Check - are there any datasets in GBIF using this institution code? If yes, do all of them contain occurrences from this institution?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&institution_code=iber-bas Custom: Show Dataset per Basis of record

Result: Last check (18.11.2023): 0 occurrence.

Code = IBER (alternative code)

Step 1: Check - are there any datasets in GBIF using this institution code? If yes, do all of them contain occurrences from this institution?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&institution_code=iber Custom: Show Dataset per Basis of record

Result: 5 datasets, two of which are from the institution.

Step 2: Is manual mapping needed?

https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?institutionCode=IBER

Yes, because the institution code is used by another institution.

Step 3: Manual mapping of occurrences that belong to this institution

NOTE: It is a good idea to list all datasets here but mark those that are not from this institution.

The following 5 occurrences were linked to the institution IBER-BAS using the OccurrenceMapping API and institutionCode= IBER: https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/institution/241f1116-604b-4815-a615-5375ba9fc9ef

  1. New taxa and notes on crickets of the subfamily Landrevinae (Orthoptera: Gryllidae) from Brunei Darussalam, Borneo - DO NOT MAP
  2. A new species of Tapiena (Orthoptera: Tettigonioidea: Phaneropterinae) from Brunei Darussalam (Borneo, Southeast Asia) - DO NOT MAP
  1. New taxa and notes of katydids from the tribe Meconematini (Orthoptera: Meconematinae) from Brunei Darussalam (Part 2) - DO NOT MAP

Code = SOM (not used as a code because it links occurrences from other institutions)

Step 1: Check - are there any datasets in GBIF using this institution code? If yes, do all of them contain occurrences from this institution?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&institution_code=SOM Custom: Show Dataset per Basis of record

Result: 3 datasets, none of which are from the institution.

Step 2: Manual mapping of occurrences that belong to this institution

NOTE: It is a good idea to list all datasets here but mark with DO NOT MAP those that are not from this institution.

The following 2 occurrences were linked to the institution IBER-BAS using the OccurrenceMapping API and institutionCode= SOM: https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/institution/241f1116-604b-4815-a615-5375ba9fc9ef

Code = SOMF (alternative code, the code of the mycological herbarium)

Step 1: Check - are there any datasets in GBIF using this institution code? If yes, do all of them contain occurrences from this institution?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?institution_code=SOMF Custom: Show Dataset per Basis of record

Result: 2 datasets, all of which are from the institution. And also to the collection, but not collection code is provided.

Step 2: Manual mapping of occurrences that belong to this institution

NOTE: It is a good idea to list all datasets here but mark with DO NOT MAP those that are not from this institution.

The following 5 occurrences (Material sample) were linked to the institution IBER-BAS using the OccurrenceMapping API and institutionCode= SOMF: https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/institution/241f1116-604b-4815-a615-5375ba9fc9ef

Linking occurrences to Collections

Collection code = IBER-BAS (i.e. the same as the Institution code)

Step 1: Are there any occurrences in GBIF using the institution code as a collection code? If yes, are these occurrences from a single collection or many collections within the same or different institutions (pay attention to the taxonomy)?

Query: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&collection_code=IBER-BAS NOTE: Better use the chart view, otherwise only the first 10 datasets are visible in the filter menu.

Result: 0 occurrences.

Collection code = IBER (i.e. the same as one of the alternative institution codes)

Step 1: Are there any occurrences in GBIF using the institution code as a collection code? If yes, are these occurrences from a single collection or many collections within the same or different institutions (pay attention to the taxonomy)?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&collection_code=IBER NOTE: Better use the chart view, otherwise only the first 10 datasets are visible in the filter menu.

Result: 17 occurrences (2023) Results: 5 occurrences (01.02.2024) - this reduction in number happened because some Plazi dataset were accidentally deleted (https://github.com/plazi/community/issues/267). When they were put back, they used institutionCode instead of collectionCode.

Step 2: Will all occurrences using this code be automatically mapped to an existing GRSciColl collection? If, yes, does the collection match the correct one?

https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?collectionCode=IBER Results (19.11.2023): The collection matched a herbarium at Universiti Brunei Darussalam. Occurrences should be mapped manually.

Step 3: Manual mapping to individual collections

Collection code = SOM (Herbarium SOM)

Step 1: Are there any occurrences in GBIF using the herbarium code as a collection code? If yes, are these occurrences from a single collection or many collections within the same or different institutions (pay attention to the taxonomy)?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&collection_code=SOM NOTE: Better use the chart view, otherwise only the first 10 datasets are visible in the filter menu.

Result: 1 occurrence to be linked to Herbarium SOM.

Step 2: Are all occurrences using this code going to be automatically mapped to an existing GRSciColl collection? If, yes, is the matched collection the correct one?

https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?collectionCode=SOM Results (19.11.2023): The code matches the correct collection. No need for manual mapping.

Collection code = SOMF (Herbarium SOMF)

Step 1: Are there any occurrences in GBIF using the herbarium code as a collection code? If yes, are these occurrences from a single collection or many collections within the same or different institutions (pay attention to the taxonomy)?

https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/charts?basis_of_record=MATERIAL_SAMPLE&basis_of_record=MATERIAL_CITATION&basis_of_record=PRESERVED_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=FOSSIL_SPECIMEN&basis_of_record=LIVING_SPECIMEN&collection_code=SOMF NOTE: Better use the chart view, otherwise only the first 10 datasets are visible in the filter menu.

Result (20.11.2023): 0 occurrence to be linked to Herbarium SOM.

Step 2: Are all occurrences using this code going to be automatically mapped to an existing GRSciColl collection? If, yes, is the matched collection the correct one?

https://api.gbif.org/v1/grscicoll/lookup?collectionCode=SOMF Results (20.11.2023): The code matches the correct collection. No need for manual mapping.
