Why is this important: To secure permission to shoot on Skellig Michael—a World Heritage site—the producers of 'The Last Jedi' had to survey and monitor ecological impacts on the island's protected seabirds. These data are referenced in the report of the Irish Film Board, part of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. As government data, it would be good as a matter of practice to see the occurrences publicly available. As data connected to a much larger cultural phenomenon, openly sharing the data could raise awareness and understanding of the importance of biodiversity to an audience outside specialist circles.
