Nordic Genetic Resources Center (NordGen) inventory of Nordic cultivars

Dataset link: http://www.nordgen.org/sesto/index.php?scp=ngb&thm=sesto&lev=&rec=&lst=cul

Region: Nordic countries

Taxon: Crops, cultivated plants

Type: checklist

Why is this important: The NordGen list of Nordic cultivars provides a curated and reasonably complete list of cultivated crop cultivars in the Nordic countries. Note that the cultivar list is maintained as a reference list for the genebank collection of accessions (living specimens) and will need to be validated and verified. The complete list includes approximately 7380 cultivars of which 953 are classified as landraces. Many of the cultivars are represented by seed propagated genebank accessions (living specimens), 3381 cultivars. Many of the remaining cultivars are also represented by clonally propagated accessions such as fruit trees etc.

Priority: medium

Comments: Open data publication for checklists of cultivated crops and cultivar names are a prioritized recommendation by the Task Group on Data Fitness for Use in Agrobiodiversity: http://www.gbif.org/resource/82283

Hi @dagendresen

I have added you as a contributor to this GitHub repository repository. If you'd like, can you please assign this issue to yourself and indicate that mobilization is in progress on the project management page :) Thanks for your help.

Indeed this is a new experimental workflow for distributed mobilization of content in the GBIF network. If it's successful, we may try to enlist help from other Nodes in a similar way. In parallel to this issue, @jholetschek has also been invited to lead work on this issue https://github.com/gbif/data-mobilization/issues/25 also.
