Bendima: a database for marine macro-invertebrate bycatch data designed to improve reproducibility in benthic ecology #423

Open ymgan opened 9 months ago

ymgan commented 9 months ago

Dataset link: https://doi.org/10.26028/cybium/2023-020

Region: Antarctic, French EEZ

Taxon: marine macro-invertebrate

Type: occurrence

Why is this important: Good quality by-catch data is valuable. Bendima contains observations of marine macro-invertebrates, including images, sampling effort data, and molecular data, facilitating ongoing amendments to identifications and cross-referencing with barcode data.

Priority:

Comments: Data holder is in the same institution as GBIF France, wonder if GBIF France can help to mobilize the data to GBIF please?

@SophiePamerlon this might be a question for you?

SophiePamerlon commented 9 months ago

@CecSve Thanks for tagging me, I'll try to contact the authors soon! As they're from MNHN, part of the data might already be published throught the MNHN IPT with the rest of the fish collection, but it would be interesting to publish the rest to GBIF (or all of it if not already published).

Author contacted, updates to follow :)

@ymgan Alexis Martin answered my email a few days ago, saying he's already thought of sharing the Bendima database contents to GBIF but not right now, as the team needs to work on the IT aspects & scientific promotion of the project first. He'll contact us back when the database is ready, I'll keep you informed!

Thank you so much @SophiePamerlon this is exciting!! I also really appreciate the updates! May I ask for a favour please? We think that this dataset would be relevant to OBIS and SCAR communities (would definitely love to include this dataset in our hosted portal), can you please consider adding the dataset to OBIS network and SCAR network upon publication? Thank you so much!!!

SophiePamerlon commented 8 months ago

@ymgan No problem on my part to include it in both OBIS & SCAR networks upon publication, I'll just need to discuss it with the authors before publishing :)
