Why is this important: Te Papa is the Museum of New Zealand and holds nationally important specimen collections. New Zealand is a biodiversity hot spot with many endemic species. Unfortunately due to introduced mammalian predators and loss of habitat many species are endangered, threatened or data deficient. Historic specimen data can be used to help inform conservation efforts and assist with filling the deficits in data that exist.
Priority: high
Comments: I'm just a member of the public using GBIF to assist me when I write Wikipedia articles on New Zealand species or when I improve the Wikidata entries on the same. I often find that the GBIF maps for New Zealand endemic species are only sparsely populated with the data of specimens and believe that adding the data of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa would give a more complete picture of New Zealand's biodiversity.
