2 years ago The current APIs allow us to do pretty much anything from any site. The question is more what we want to allow and actively support.
Should users be able to
- Create a new account?
- Update their account?
- Login with Github, Google, ORCiD, Facebook?
- Reset pasword?
- Browse their profile page and see a list of their downloads/derived datasets/validation reports?
- See the individual downloads?
- Create feedback issues in /gbif/portal-feedback when logged in? See also https://github.com/gbif/hosted-portals/issues/9
@MattBlissett and @timrobertson100 you will have something sensible to add I expect
This is was prompted by https://github.com/gbif/hosted-portals/issues/23
It would make for a nicer user experience if users could register and sign in on the site instead of going to GBIF.org.
If we also had user profiles, then users could go there to see their past downloads. Just like https://www.gbif.org/user/profile
And if we also had download pages similar to https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/download/0058704-160910150852091, then the whole flow would be completely within the hosted portal and hence a less abrupt experience.
