Possibility for being able to publish news items without updating the entire site #193

This is an enhancement request. Everything does work well to be able to publish news items. However, it feels a bit strange to have to push an update of the entire site every time there is a new news item to post. Is it possible to consider in the future a way to publish news items separate from updating the entire site?

I'm afraid this is just how a website built using a "static site generator" works Abby - there isn't a database into which an item is pushed like a classical CMS, but it just triggers a build.

What is the actual issue with it rebuilding the site, please? Is it taking too long that it becomes a nuisance for editors?

Fair enough. I want to reiterate that this is just a wish and not a requirement or a blocker. I discussed with a few of my GBIF North America steering group members and we all felt it seemed "a bit too much" and might possible depress the desire to post news items but it may just be a bit of an adjustment period is all. I'll go ahead and close the ticket.

Thanks Abby

This is fairly common nowadays for "low edit" sites like these and similar to say tdwg.org. It's just so much more efficient (no running databases to administer) and robust.

Please keep us posted if frustrations rise.

Hi Abby - is it the release part to get it into production? If so we could make any edit go to production. Just like any edit currently goes to staging. You would loose your test environment in that scenario of course.

Oh definitely still want to keep the staging to check things before pushing to production! Just wanted a bypass for the news items only but sounds like that's not possible, which is not insurmountable.
