Thanks @abubelinha
You can find some live examples in the links on this news item.
We anticipate opening a call again around early April for more installations. A GBIF subdomain is a possibility, but it will depend on the circumstances which you could outline in the application. So far all portals have their own domain.
What would be the problem with having your own domain, please? Perhaps you could describe the scope of the portal you envisage?
The scope:
The main interest was to create an easier access of our reserchers to their data of interest. This is not for self-promoting an institution or project, so we don't care about a domain. At least for now.
It just adds complexity to something I still don't know how complex could be. This would be one-person work, and I am ok with learning github-markdown, some html-css ... plus curating, databasing and publishing our collections (which is my main task).
Was an alternative idea to having a server for a similar task. But if a corporative domain is needed for this, I am not so interested. I guess not, but I wonder if a github pages domain (my-site.gthub.io) will be valid for this.
Actually the examples you provide and the article linked in there, are more serious things, with meetings, working in groups, due dates, ... not what I am looking for.
I thought it was suitable for small projects which anybody could do. Something much more simple and automatic, like creating a github page. Certainly it's not.
Perhaps if this becomes something I can work in on my own, without due dates and compromises ... but until then I am certainly out.
I misunderstood the project targets. Sorry for bothering
Thank you for elaborating @abubelinha
That is very helpful to us. When we open this up again, there will be options for institutions/groups sharing data. Technically it would be possible to offer what you seek, and I'll see what we can do to accommodate the wishes. Please keep an eye on this opening up for more portals in April.
@melianieraymond - this is something we should consider as we scope the application process.
I would like to ask if this is still a project or we can already see examples of hosted-portals in production.
Assuming "yes", I wonder if it is mandatory to have a private domain, or can we still have a hosted portal like these:
It looks like to me that the answer is yes in both cases. I found links to some sites with type-1 urls , but I don't know if these are just tests or final "official" sites. Specially because the getting-started preparation.md page suggests that a domain is needed. So I would like to have an "official" confirmation that it is not necessary.
Thanks
