Occurrence: Display of and filtering by common names #224

Currently neither the table view nor the occurrence details page show vernacular names. Would it be possible to add that - and maybe also to have a filter on vernacular names?

Do you mean

the field https://dwc.tdwg.org/terms/#dwc:vernacularName - this of course will require that name to be in the published occurrence in the given language.
Or using checklists to find a common name for a given taxon?

Search on vernacular names I cannot do. Neither is possible currently, but you are welcome to create an issue for it gbif/pipelines

But I can find a way to show vernacular names on individual occurrences. But I'm not sure what to prefer - I think I would prefer using checklists over the individual occurrences. That is what we do on GBIF.org.

Hi @MortenHofft, I meant the common names from the check list, as they're usually not provided with the source data. If filtering is not possible, showing it for individual occurrences would be nice as you do it on GBIF: grafik

I can look into that. The only problem with that is that there is no guarentee that it is from YOUR checklist. I just get some random german name from SOME checklist. But I can probably find a way around that.

This is perfectly fine... this portal isn't really intended for the wider general audience, so common names would be a nice feature! Thanks a lot!
