Search by countries

New navigation placement of the global trends page hides the fact that we have breakdown by countries. I would add search by countries (or drop down, or clickable map) just below the subtitle and above the curves.

@dschigel I'm a bit confused. The navigation placement of trends is exactly the same now as before?

dschigel commented 4 years ago

I mean when you go to new main menu -> Get data -> trends. How to do you get to country trends from there?

dnoesgaard commented 4 years ago

But how is this different from the previous main menu?

dschigel commented 4 years ago

Not sure; I just bumped into trends in a more prominent position, try to go country and could not. Possibly this is low priority; more like a captured experience.

timhirsch commented 4 years ago

I think I know what Dmitry is referring to . On the previous portal you could go to main trends and see a list of countries which would give you all the analytics charts together for data about and data from - now this is dispersed so you get all the same information on the relevant parts of the country pages. I would see it as a useful feature to be able to get direct to a country list from 'trends' as otherwise it's not obvious that info is available.

dnoesgaard commented 4 years ago

Ok, now I think I understand. I was just confused with how this related to the new navigation.

I agree that having some sort of list/reference to country/area page trends from the global trends page could be useful. Even mentioning that country-level trends exist might be helpful, if nothing else. Will investigate...

MattBlissett commented 4 years ago

The old page to which Tim refers was perhaps http://www.gbif.org/country, which is set to redirect to https://www.gbif.org/the-gbif-network

dschigel commented 4 years ago

@MattBlissett in fact I only meant moving from global to country as understood by @dnoesgaard just above

kcopas commented 4 years ago

Trends did not move in the navigation, so the absence is not new.

I do know of other places where a drop down an auto-fill search would help greatly, though.

@MortenHofft - as agreed:

Another thing we might consider:

on country page/about, revise trends section header:

TRENDS ABOUT BELGIUM (looking for trends on data publishing?)

and vice versa on /publishing#trends:

PUBLISHING TRENDS (looking for trends about <country/area>?

(so basically linking between the two trends sections on the country page. I might be able to do this in Crowdin, but would still need the anchors)
