No media identifier provided

I am seeing a lot of these associated with media in my collection. See this record as an example - https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/656978655. It appears to be connected to collecting event images. Any idea why this is happening?

Thanks

Andy

I reached out to @acbentley about something related to this issue and he updated me on the conversation. I'm still exploring, but I did wanted to share this occurrence as a good test example, since it has both a working and broken image linked to it: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/657015621

So that ended up being a good example to identify the differences. As far as I can tell, both the Collection Object (CO) and the Collecting Event (CE) reference the same occurrenceID. The only difference that jumps out at me is that the type == "StillImage" and subtype == "Photograph" for the working image. For the broken image, type == "Text" and subtype == "Scanned Text".

@acbentley, I know you said this was working previously and that it was working in the test environment. But I couldn't quickly find any pdf examples in the test environment. Do you have one you could share?

Surely the media type and subtype should not be causing the issue? These are valid terms used in these fields in DwC. It does appear as if none of the CE images are showing, no matter the type or subtype (I have images connected to collecting event too).

As for collections in the sandbox I have been working on both KUBI entomology and ornithology, both of which have similar collecting event or collecting trip images, and both seem to be working just fine. My fish collection is no longer in the sandbox as it is now live, but I distinctly remember checking all images before allowing it to go live.

See this record from ornithology as an example - https://www.gbif-uat.org/occurrence/3082488306 - the bird image is connected to the collection object and the location images are connected to the collecting trip (1:M to collection object) See this record from entomology as an example - https://www.gbif-uat.org/occurrence/3070344962 - - the bee image is connected to the collection object and the label image is connected to the collecting event (1:M to collection object)

On looking at this further could it be that these are pdf’s and they are not showing thumbnails? The images are visible when clicking on the link below the image.

I think the issue is with the display of PDFs on the website. I will need to see whether our image thumbnailing/caching tool can support this.
