coordinate - location mismatch #5145

Email feedback to node manager and dataset POC, from Carole Hannoire, via GBIF.org regarding: https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/4099650353

I think the location on the map is incorrect because Aveyron is located in southern France. Aveyron is correct, I verified it in the book of Bourdot and Galzin.

I confirmed that Aveyron is about 3 degrees south of the coordinates in the record. I've followed up with the dataset POC via email since I can't find them on github.

From Lisa Castlebury and John Hall via email:

this was indexed in the GeoLocate database so the coordinates were assigned automatically. This is indicated in the GBIF record as well as the MyCoPortal record. In this instance, the only geographic information is ‘Aveyron’ which is a Department of France but also a river. I think GeoLocate mapped it to the mouth of the Aveyron River rather than the Department of Aveyron. I’m not sure one assumption is better than the other so I’m reluctant to change the coordinates unless there is some specific information about this specimen available elsewhere. There are no other obviously relevant specimens in MyCoPortal. If I were assigning the coordinates de novo, I would probably remove the coordinates and mark the record as ambiguous.

They've agree to summarize this in georeferenceRemarks. Let's leave this open until we see that update.
