Prince Edward Island and Marion Island are on the Antarctic tectonic plate, which I think is why they've been grouped with Antarctica. User-generated Google map of the plates for quick reference.
They're also part of the Antactic biogeographic realm, though that's not a continental division and would deserve a separate term if we supported it.
The whole thing is not very well defined, as far as I can see.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subantarctic#Subantarctic_islands is one definition but without citations. The map of the Antarctic Convergence is useful, that influences some biogeographic definitions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antarctic_Convergence
I haven't asked the user. Maybe he and people from SCAR can advise.
@MattBlissett note that the user who logged the issue is actually the publisher of the dataset.
Maybe @ymgan or @Antonarctica can advise?
It is incorrect to state that Marion Island is close to the continent of Antarctica.
