I've spent half my day trying to figure this out, so I apologize if my question is basic. How do I search for all species and subspecies of bear (Ursus family)? I just need a list, and I'm lost trying to find it. #5351

Occurrence search, as in above link shows where and when species have been observed. https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/search?taxon_key=2433406&occurrence_status=present

From that you can also generate a list of distinct taxa within a given query. But that of course will only show species that have been observed. If a species is known to exist, but there is no published observations, then it will not show (for bears that is unlikely to be an issue) E.g. to see it and group by e.g. species https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/taxonomy?taxon_key=2433406&occurrence_status=present

Or you can download the species checklist https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/download?taxon_key=2433406&occurrence_status=present

For pure checklist information we have species search: https://www.gbif.org/species/search?rank=SPECIES&rank=SUBSPECIES&rank=UNRANKED&highertaxon_key=2433406&status=ACCEPTED&status=DOUBTFUL That allows you to search in the checklist that GBIF normalise all incoming names to - what we call the backbone taxonomy (you can also search checklists by various publishers)

Is this what you are searching for?

And given that you spent half a day I'm curious to understand what you tried. Clearly there is something that isn't as intuitive as it could be.

If you have time, please explain what your background is, what you assumed and tried. That would likely be helpful for us to understand how to better guide users in the future. Thanks
