GBIF gets the vernacular names from the GRIN taxonomy dataset published to GBIF by Catalogue of Life. The source can be found here and there is a citation for the common name of Goa-butter:
Mabberley, D. J. 1997. The plant-book: a portable dictionary of the vascular plants, ed. 2.
The checklist also lists sources for the other two common names shared with GBIF: kokam and kokum.
Garcinia indica is called as Kokum. That is its original name. By calling it Goa butter, we are misguiding the readers about its origin. Please stay away from such generalisations. Would welcome references in support of this name.
