Hi @ahahn-gbif The original issue was in fact two issues. One about the data and one about the presentation of media in general. At least that is how I understood the issue. So I copied it to the portal project and left the original for you to close once the data part was done with. I closed it by accident and therefore reopened it again.
@MortenHofft ah ok, got it!
https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1612033091 is an example of an occurrence with a correct multimedia definition for video. The website tries to display it as an image at present.
https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/143162171 is an example in MPEG-1, which a web browser won't show.
https://www.gbif.org/occurrence/1050349898 has lots of videos.
There are also audio examples.
Embedding the publisher's videos directly might be really slow, most of the ones I've tried are on very slow servers. But caching them here (e.g. during a crawl) could use a lot of storage if more than the current ~700 are published.
Also, I don't know if it's acceptable to embed HTTP videos on an HTTPS page.
Last I checked videos came to us in a lot of formats and I couldn't see a simple way to get that to work even decently in all browsers. But I might have been unreasonably pessimistic.

that indeed is a bug. It isn't intended to show any videos at this point. only link to them.
I think we should add some checks at ingestion time, to see
This is the kind of thing that should be easy to add once we have Beam working.
checking that video, images etc exists would be very useful. it is a challenge to use media given that we never know up front if it is still there.
Nearly 25 million records in this dataset now: https://search.macaulaylibrary.org/catalog
We have something like 288k
Add links to A/V files from Macaulay Library
It would be a great improvement to add links to this collection, which is focused audio and video recordings of birds, particularly since the occurrences themselves appear to be relatively up to date (compared to totals listed on the Library's site: https://macaulaylibrary.org/search?open_advanced=1)
It's unfortunate that the records included in a dataset for 'the world’s premier scientific archive of natural history audio, video, and photographs' appear without anything to indicate associated media.
