Reestablish the SANDBOX Plinian Core extensions #67

Closed timrobertson100 closed 2 years ago

The original extensions are seemingly offline.

We should re-enable these to support the work of the TDWG group aiming to revise Plinian Core and seek ratification.

WUlate commented 2 years ago

I see the Plinian Core extensions are included only as a reference in a JSON file in the directory (external.json), not as extensions. Can you please include the .XMLs in the directory? Or is there some configuration to be made?

timrobertson100 commented 2 years ago

Hi @WUlate, we can certainly put the XML files in this repo, although they are referenced already in the inventory which is what the IPT uses. Currently it’s set up so these appear for the IPTs in TEST mode, and when it’s ratified we can move out of the sandbox.

It's best to keep them in one place where they will be managed rather than duplicate them here. It looks to me that they are in the right place at the moment for that - aren’t they?

WUlate commented 2 years ago

Got it, thanks! Sorry, I was looking in the wrong place. Agree, best to keep'em together, I got confused because I was looking at the other extensions there.

When are extensions moved out of the sandbox? Do you mean TDWG's SDS-compliant (ratified) Standard or is this a different GBIF-ratification process?

timrobertson100 commented 2 years ago

That’s @WUlate

Things that are on a standards track in TDWG would go with the TDWG ratification.

There have been some more bespoke extensions back in the day, which served a community need but all the recent ones (DNA, Audubon etc) went through the TDWG standard or task group review.

Here I’d suggest doing it properly as part of the TDWG standard.

Would that suit your work? If not, we can rethink accordingly.
