Need translations for "Material Citation" #76

Open tucotuco opened 2 years ago

MaterialCitation was recently added to the set of Darwin Core classes and is a recommended value for basisOfRecord. The GBIF controlled vocabulary for basisOfRecord includes labels in Portuguese, Spanish, and Chinese (incorrectly labeled as xml:lang="ja"). For consistency it would be good to add translations in these languages for "Material Citation". Are there any other translations that should be added? Are the translations used anywhere? Should they be removed?

Updating the basisOfRecord controlled vocabulary referenced by the updated Darwin Core Occurrence Core XML file depends on the resolution of this issue.

I'm fairly sure those translations are indeed Japanese. 人による観察 and オカレンス definitely are (they have characters only used in Japanese), and the others have perfect Google translations from Japanese.

We would want to add traditional Chinese, Russian and French, to support the other languages used by the IPT. They are used in the interface when mapping to Darwin Core, see here for example (scroll down slightly to the screenshot with "taxonRank").

There's a related request on the IPT for translation of the DWC definitions into Spanish, which links to http://rs.gbif.org/terms/dwc/dwc_translations.rdf, and I found https://github.com/tdwg/rs.tdwg.org/blob/master/dwc-translations/dwcTranslations.csv . Is the latter official, and is there a process for updating it?

My mistake. I only really looked in detail at the first translation.

The file https://github.com/tdwg/rs.tdwg.org/blob/master/dwc-translations/dwcTranslations.csv is not part of the standard and is not currently maintained by the Darwin Core Maintenance Group. There is an open issue about it here.
