explanation on auto-generated citations #57

Open ktotsum opened 1 year ago

A user was surprised to see that DOI was not included in the auto-generated citation on IPT. Since people get confused between auto-generated citations on IPT and on GBIF.org, adding explanations on the differences can be helpful. https://ipt.gbif.org/manual/en/ipt/latest/citation

An DOI known to the IPT is included: https://ipt.biodiversity.aq/resource?r=mapppd_count_data

But not a GBIF-assigned DOI: https://ipt.biodiversity.aq/resource?r=mna_amphipoda

We show the GBIF dataset UUID on the IPT's resource page, perhaps we should show the DOI used by GBIF too? There could be a second "How to cite" block with that DOI, or maybe that's confusing.

Any thoughts @dnoesgaard?

To be fair, the DOI that GBIF assigns refers to the interpreted dataset on GBIF.org, not the resource on the IPT. I don't have a problem showing the GBIF-assigned DOI, if possible, but people should also be able to cite e.g. a specific version of an IPT resource.

(I don't think this a major issue)
