One bit of feedback I got that really resonated with me is that the current homepage makes sense to those of us who've been thinking about and making this website, but don't necessarily make sense to lead with for new or casual site users.
The suggestion I'd make here is that we take the 'what this site is' and 'what this site isn't' body content currently on the homepage and put it on another page called 'About this Site' or 'What is this website?' that is linked from the sidebar.
The rest of the homepage content makes plenty of sense for the homepage. It's nice to have a few bullet points in the middle of the text though to break it up, so I'd propose something like this to go where the what this site is/isn't content is currently, but am happy to do anything else:
## Some of what you can find here
* Lists of websites, email groups, and neighborhood news
* A directory of community spaces and businesses in Trinidad
* Details of events that the community is organizing
* And more...
