HW 8 notes on your plot #4

I am not grading the plots, but I felt important to give you some feedback on your plot choice in this case:

when dealing with crime and such sensitive issues we need to be careful with hidden messages in a plot. In this map "smiling denotes the number of rape". This is a terrible choice that may lead to think the message is that rape is good. and even if it does not lead to think it it does not convey rape as negative, because as you said faces are easy to read but also convey immediate emotional response in humans, cause we use facial expressions to communicate This goes both ways: we have an emotional response to the esthetic of the plot which in this case should not math the emotional response the numbers on this topic should arise.

The moral is that not all data is suitable to be plotted in any ways: Chernoff faces are fun, and informative, but should not be used on a topic that is not neutral to avoid sending the wrong message or causing conflicting responses in the reader

I'm sorry for the impropriate choice of the visualization method. I designed the Chernoff faces to represent the criminals' facial expressions. I never meant to convey crime is good. I'm so sorry.

no worries, at times we get caught up in the technical aspects of the work and we forget or fail to realize what it may look to a non technical observer. I promised the plots would not be graded, but I though I should point it out to you in case you were thinking of showing this graphics to others and you had not realized the implications of it
