i'm not running steam at all since you made this lovely plugin.
that guy i was conversing with only used steam.

I also get this problem. Only that it (more-or-less) occurs for every single
message sent by the other person. I have had instances with the message being
repeated more then twice, say three times.
I had this problem on Windows, Ubuntu, and on Ubuntu x64, so I can at least say
it's not platform dependent...
The other people were just all using Steam on Windows.

what i see in the debug is this:
"secure_message_id": 448
twice.
maybe.. if its not plugin related that this occurs, it may be a good idea to
just drop messages with id's that already had been received. (done through
comparing the secure_message_id with a counter)
if i get my environment ready i may poke around with this for a bit. hopefully
i can get something done.

Fixed in v1.1. Download the new version from
http://code.google.com/p/pidgin-opensteamworks/downloads/list
and give it a whirl :)
