Additional checks were added in 3.3, including this one, and there was a bug in
the code that does the checking. That's why the problem does not occur in 3.2,
but does in 3.3.
The bug was fixed last July in the 3.3 source code (as r2530) and the 3.4
source code (as r2532).
The 3.4beta02 and higher releases include the fix
There have been no 3.3 releases that include the fix, and there are no current
plans for a new 3.3 release that would include the fix.

Ah ok, but isn't the point of a stable version to incorporate fixes?
It's a bit hard to tell the users to "use the latest beta", when the latest
beta is (as it should be!) changing all the time...

The stable _source_code_ incorporates the fixes.
I generally only create a new stable release when it will contain important
security-related fixes or fixes that affect many users; neither is the case
with version 3.3, in my opinion.
Tunnelblick betas usually work OK -- most problems have to do with new
features, so if you don't use the new features, you don't have a problem.
