UI Improvements/Suggestions #371

Hello, really love your app. Finally an app close to IrfanView made it to the
mac. You really made my day.

I'd like to suggest some improvements for the overall user interface/experience.
(I'm a nitpicker, this is criticism on a high level, so please don't get me
wrong :-) )

1) Some elements are slightly misaligned/badly proportioned. E.g. the standard
close/minimize... buttons don't match die other styles. It would be better to
have smaller buttons that are perfectly (optically) centered. Have a look at
the Quicktime Player as a reference for dark styles, you will notice the
difference. I also recommend a 1pt smaller fontsize in the titlebar.

1b) Different styles require different icons. In the black style the
fullscreen-button is almost not visible. Also have a look at the
active/inactive states of the close/minimize... buttons... in the dark skins.

2) Unfortunately the icons inside the app don't match the OSX-style or a modern
style at all. They look a little bit outdated. There are some great free Icons
out there even for commercial use. I think metro-style icons (although
originally designed for Win8) would make a good start (Folder, Zoom, Size,
etc.). As mentioned before, they are free. And I would really love to have them
at one (perceived) size(!).

3) The statusbar is great, but:

3a) I think you should make a decision, whether you are using icons or not.
Some informations come along with an icon, others don't. I really like good
icons, but it should be done consequently.

3b) It would be great to let the user make the decision in the prefs which
information is relevant to him. For example: I don't need the color
informations (YCbCr H*V*) nor the timestamp. So there is too much information
which leads to bad legibility.

3d) Mh, I become repetitive. Too much information. Keep things even more
simple. In the Main Window the filename is displayed twice. (title and
statusbar). Its most likely an universal design guideline to not provide the
same information several times. This also applies to the filetype. *.jpg in the
title, JPEG & *.jpg in the statusbar. We need to find a better solution for
this.

4) Background-color in fullscreen is stuck to the skin. It'd be great to choose
it. Regular skin -> white bg in fullscreen. I guess black would be better for
me :)

5) Black skin main window: Please don't use bright shadows/glow effects on
typography (active title). Never ever do this. :-D

6) Usually I wouldn't recommend this, but since this app is 'just' an image
viewer, I would give it a shot. Typography: try another font. Systemfonts are
always quite good. But not necessarily good looking. Good Typography can make
huge difference in the overall appearance. I could imagine FF Din or FF Din
Round to be a good choice in this case. But this is just an idea.

respectfully yours
Patrick

Please allow us to show or remove the status bar. I love your app because it's
clean, but for viewing an image or photo I very rarely need to know it's
information. If I need to, I just open "Show image information". The status bar
it just disturbing, like something I want to clean/remove/get rid off, someone
might like that, this is why an option to show/remove would be great.

Unfortunately, there are only so many hours in the day. Some things I might
like to do better, but this is as good as it gets for now.
