Badly needed.  

The animated / flashing gifs we display in google maps don't work for our earth 
users.

The timespan doesn't work well since we are not showing an image with an 
associated timespan (beginning & end point).  It should flash back and forth 
from the normal color to red indefinitely.  Plus we don't want the timespan 
control to show up.  Even, the timespan worked, it would be overkill for our 
simple need.
