Evaluate all 5.x WYSIWG, WYSIWM, rich text etc. editors #86

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Task description
Drupal.org has over 100 modules in the "filters and editors" category.
Around a dozen of these are editors which modify textareas for easy
formatting of posts.

Drupal core does not currently have an editor, and this is often a feature
request in the forums, however there's a possibility that one would be
considered for core in Drupal 7. In general the community has been unable
to find one which is up to scratch, and many users end up trying several
different editors before they find one which works for their site.

You should take the following steps for this task:

Find all editors from http://drupal.org/project/Modules/category/63

Install each editor in a Drupal 5 installation* and evaluate it for the
following points:

1. Does it have an offical 5.x release?
2. Does it pass coder.module testing?
3. Did you find any bugs?
4. Does it generate valid XHTML

If you find any issues, submit a bug report to the module's issue queue if
one does not already exist.

You should also make notes (and ratings if appropriate) for the following
criteria:
Ease of installation, settings etc.. Does it require third-party libraries?
Does it depend on another drupal module?
Editor usability.
Any functionality you think the module is missing.

These should be presented in a table/chart in a post on the wysiwyg group.

In addition, pick three modules you particularly liked, and write up a
longer description of their features, why you liked them, and include
screenshots of the editing interface - this should be a separate post in
the wysiwyg group.

Once your findings have been reviewed, you should also add them as a
Handbook page to complete the task.

* You will need to enable and disable each module as you evaluate them to
avoid conflicts.

Still waiting to hear something. If we don't hear something from you today or
tomorrow about your progress, we're going to have to open this issue back up for
other students.

I'm sorry, but since we haven't heard anything from you I'm going to have to
open
this task up for other students to claim. If you're still interested in doing
this
task feel free to claim it again if it's still available.

Technically you need to claim this task again, because your previous task had
not
officially been closed yet when you claimed this task.

Original comment by dummyhe...@gmail.com on 4 Jan 2008 at 3:25

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Come one... please reopen, ActionNeeded means that the work needs o be submitted
within 24 hours! not 5 days!

Original comment by dummyhe...@gmail.com on 5 Jan 2008 at 5:50

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
@dummyhead3: The official GHOP rules require that we keep an issue claimed by a
student for 3 days after we set it to action needed (assuming there is no
response
from the student). This task was set as action needed 2 days ago, so unless
tranquilityreigns asks to be unassigned from the task, we'll have to wait until
tomorrow before we reopen the task.

What about this task interests you so much? We might be able to come up with
something that will float your boat, so to speak, now so that you can claim that
instead of waiting until we reopen this task.

Feel free to drop in to #drupal or #drupal-ghop in IRC (irc.freenode.net) and
talk to
some of us, if you would like. I'm aclight there, but there are often other
GHOP
admins hanging out there as well.

Dan has posted some updates in the drupal.org issue. Marking NeedsReview, and
extending deadline until Tuesday.

Original comment by webchick...@gmail.com on 5 Jan 2008 at 9:53

DanW is making progress, and this task has become a bit more extensive than it
seemed
initially, so I'll extend the deadline by a few more days. But it would be
really
great to see this task wrapped up soon! Keep up the good work.

Original comment by acli...@gmail.com on 10 Jan 2008 at 12:49

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Let's try to get this wrapped up. There's not much more that's needed for this
to be
complete, but the handbook page still needs a bit of work.

else
seems to be working just fine.

Due to Dan's DNS problems, i'll extend a couple of days.

It looks like there are still a few minor things to fix, then this will be
done.
Please try to get these done soon.

Just a reminder that no task can be claimed after 2:00 AM Pacific Time / 08:00
UTC on
January 22nd, and that all tasks must be completed by 12:00 AM Pacific Time /
