[macOS][Bug]: Upgrading macOS can reset save directory permissions - Prompt User for Save Permission #225

Open gdavis opened 1 year ago

As a user I should be prompted to re-select the podcast save directory if the bookmark data used to access the secure location is no longer valid

Original report: When a user upgraded macOS to Ventura 13.1, the file permissions were reset for Mimir to access the save location. Re-selecting the download location fixed the issue by updating the permissions.

Hello Grant; I hope you enjoyed the holiday weekend?

I upgraded from Monterey to Ventura, 13.1 during this week.

Unfortunately I can no longer download files to Mimir (15.1, 130) now.

Is this something you would kindly help me with, please?

Examples are

• In Our Time The Niebelungenlid https://podcasts.files.bbci.co.uk/b006qykl.rss • The Ancients Spartacus https://rss.acast.com/the-ancients Download error

As Grant says, this appears to happen in 13.1 and not earlier versions of Ventura.

The suggestion of re-selecting the download location (in my case: ~/Music/Mimir) worked and I can now successfully download and save everything. Thanks!

@MarkSealey Great! Glad to hear that worked. I'll have to see if there's a way I can check to see if permissions have been reset and need to be saved again. I'd like to at least be able to display a warning and prompt the user to re-select the directory again.

I'll update this ticket to track adding that in.

Great. Thanks, Grant.

Any news of when the next release will be available, please?

I’m really loving Mimir - but those changes to the way playlists work will be really welcome :-)

I don’t have a release date set yet, but yesterday I did release the new TestFlight versions of the app. There are a few more big changes I want to get in before the next release is ready, and the new player changes need a lot of testing as well. I’m shooting for early next month.

If you aren’t already in the beta test, this is the fastest way to get the updates, but of course you would be using beta software which could also be prone to bugs. Let me know if you don’t have access and would like an invite.

Thanks, Grant - but smooth and reliable operation is so important to me that I’d be nervous joining a Beta team. So regrettably decline. But thanks.

Good luck - and a very Happy New Year to you and yours :-)
